Meeting the needs of all ESL students!
Addressing the needs of LEP students can be a
considerable task if their language acquisition skills are not up to par.
Fortunately, major school systems and community education centers, including
many districts in Texas, California, New York and Florida (Houston, El Paso,
Los Angeles Unified, Miami-Dade, New York City and New York Public Libraries
just to name a few), are taking advantage of two remarkable learning systems
called English
Discoveries and English Adventures. These multimedia
programs were designed for LEP students by Edusoft in partnership with such
world-renowned organizations as Berlitz and Heinle and Heinle.
Now Edusoft has
released English Discoveries Expert and English
Discoveries Online for English Language Learners.

Why English Discoveries?

1) Attendance
has been significantly impacted when students are scheduled into an English
Discoveries lab. We saw anywhere from a 10% to 25% increase in student
attendance on days when classes were assigned to the lab.
2) Many
students asked if they could purchase CD-ROMS with the English Discoveries
software; they wished to use the software while at home.
3) Some
students were caught trying to copy the software for their personal use at
home. This is quite a testament to their belief in the benefits of the
software.
4) Teachers
have spoken with me about the positive impacts that English Discoveries
software has had on student achievement in the classroom. Students who have
access to the software, generally, complete programs quicker than students
who do not have access to a lab.
5) Finally,
fewer students withdraw before completing programs when they have access to
